[Review] Etude house's Pearl Aura range

Recently I ordered an album, Block B's HER to be precise, and as always when I order something from a website that happens to sell cosmetics alongside its other products; I purchased some cosmetics with it.

This time it was Etude House's Pearl Aura trial kit!

This trial kit consists of two products; the Brightening Essence (25ml) and Brightening Essence Lotion (10ml), both held in a sweet little resealable pouch!

This is the trial kit to accompany the Pearl Aura range, which at the moment consists of two products; the essence and lotion in full sizes of 100ml each.

Application: 4/5

The products are intended to be used together, applied in the order of Brightening Essence -> Brightening Essence Lotion.

The liquid products themselves are difficult to rate. Both are very different types of product and both have their own pros and cons. For example the Essence is a slightly viscous liquid, like a very watery gel, which applies smoothly and absorbs quickly leaving your skin feeling moisturized yet not sticky. On the other hand the lotion is, as you would expect, a lotion, and its consistency is pretty regular for one too. I find that, like the essence, it applies smoothly and leaves your skin feeling smooth and moisturized, although unlike the essence, also leaves a slightly sticky residue on your skin. Not enough to be a hindrance, but its still noticeable to touch.

One pretty notable con of both would be the fact that they're both pretty heavily scented. For me personally this isn't a problem, my skin doesn't tend to react with most things, but if your's does, then this might be one to avoid.

Effectiveness: 4/5

Upon application, both the essence and lotion give a wonderful glow to the skin, which is ideal if, like me, you're a fan of the dewy skin look. However if you're not, these products may just make you feel like your face is unusually shiny. This is why I've marked it down slightly, as its not for everyone; this is definitely a product aimed at certain people and tends to, as would be expected from a Korean brand, cater more for the Korean market in which dewy skin is extremely popular. Yet like I said if you're into that, then this could be great for you! The instant effect of the products is the aforementioned glow to your skin, but they also have the long term effect of making your complexion much brighter and more even with repeated use!

Packaging: 5/5

To be honest, its hard to ever fault etude house on their packaging. Not only is it ridiculously cute but its always well made, with high quality plastics and well-designed applicators. I can say hat I've never felt as though I've been ripped off by Etude House by receiving and cheaply made, shoddy product. And these samples are no exception. The bottles are both made out of strong plastic which has this pretty, iridescent sheen to it, and feature the Etude house logo and the name of the products in a very chic font. The bag they're contained in is also pretty cute, overall I really feel that Etude House have put a lot of effort into the design of the packaging, which is pretty admirable seeing as though they're just samples.

Price: 5/5
(All of these prices are averages, since online retailers all price them slightly differently).

Trial Kit: £3.00 ($5)
Brightening Essence full size: £13.00 ($21)
Brightening Essence Lotion full size: £10.00 ($17)

I think the prices are more than reasonable, especially for the trial kit which gives you samples that you can actually get long-term use out of, instead of one-use sachets.

Overall I'd say I'm happy with this purchase! For me personally its ideal, it creates the exact look I like and doesn't harm my skin. Like I said this isn't for everyone but I would still definitely recommend checking it out as it's a great affordable alternative to more expensive brands! Not only that but the trial kit is a really good way to test the full size products out; for one thing it's cheap so if you decide that it isn't for you, you haven't wasted a heck of a lot of money. Moreover the samples themselves are big enough to give you plenty of use, so you can really tell if the product is effective for you over the long-term. In conclusion, massive kudos to Etude House!
